Furniture for outdoor use (known as Casual Furniture) is available in many different materials and styles. When selecting casual furniture, pay particular attention to construction details, materials, and warranties. Furniture destined for outdoor use has to be able to survive UV rays from the sun as well as rain or even snow. Fabrics specifically intended for outdoor use (such as Sunbrella) are guaranteed to resisting fading in the sun. Avoid furniture with a short lifespan, for it just increases the loads on our landfills, and ends up costing over time when it must be purchased again and again.

Metal casual furniture is normally manufactured from aluminum, iron, or stainless steel. In general, quality metal patio furniture needs little to no maintenance, and has a very long life. Aluminum furniture tends to be the most lightweight of the three, iron the heaviest. Look for powder-coated frames to ensure scratch-resistant finishes. Wicker and woven are available in natural and synthetic materials; natural wicker is great in a protected environment (such as a covered patio), while high-quality synthetic woven can generally be left out in the elements. This category is one where the old adage "You get what you pay for" is especially applicable! Wood

Outdoor furniture to relax in comes in many forms. From sofa or an outdoor swivel gliding lounge chair to an exquisite chaise lounge, today's premuim outdoor furniture rivals the best indoor cushions in their construction and sumptuousness, yet is manufactured from materials which scoff at rain and the sun's UV rays! When selecting outdoor lounges, look for plush cushions made with reticulated foam, such as Sta-Dri, which does not absorb water but instead allows it to run right through it. Its been a hard day. Come out into your personal escape and sink into your plush sofa on your patio. Put your feet up. Aaaahh... Now, isn't that just what the doctor ordered? When selecting deep cushion furniture, look for sunbrella fabrics, reticulated foam (water runs through without being absorbed) and dacron-wrapped cores for soft, supple shape.
